From lighthearted musicals, period pieces and modern dramas
to classic comedies, the Thomas Worthington High School
Theatre Repertory is planning a theater season with a little
something for everyone.
Director Bronwynn Hopton provided descriptions of upcoming
performances:
* Smile is a "lighthearted musical that revolves around the
antics of California finalists in a beauty competition."
Performances are Oct. 14, 17, 19 and 20.
* The Crucible is a "gripping historical play about the
Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem, written by Arthur
Miller." Performances are Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17.
* The Boys Next Door, written by Tom Griffin, "is a play
that focuses on the lives of four mentally challenged men
who live in a communal residence under the watchful eye of a
sincere, but increasingly despairing, social worker."
Performances are Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15.
* The Mousetrap, by Agatha Christie, "depicts a group of
strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snowstorm,
one of whom is a murderer." Performances are Jan. 4, 5, 11
and 12.
* Oklahoma! was declared by the New York Drama League as
"Best Musical of the 20th Century." "It is a love story set
in Western Indian territory, just after the turn of the
century." Performances are Feb. 15 and 16.
* Letters to a Student Revolutionary is a "powerful and
disarmingly funny play about the friendship and political
awakening of two women, one Chinese, the other
Chinese-American," by Elizabeth Wong. Performances are March
1, 7 and 8.
* I Believe in Make Believe is "a delightful presentation of
five world-favorite fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm,
including 'The Princess Who Wouldn't Laugh', 'The Shoemaker
and the Elves' and 'The Bremen Town Musicians.' Performances
are April 4 and 11.
* David and Lisa, by James Reach, is the drama of "two
people battling mental illness and their search for health.
Laughter, heartbreak and suspense distinguish this story."
Performances are May 1-3.
* The Odd Couple, by Neil Simon, is the classic comedy about
"two very different personalities who room together after
each has divorced their mates." Simon wrote two different
versions of the comedy, and the repertory will present both,
Hopton said. Performances are May 16, 17, 23 and 24.
