Goodman leads local incumbents back to Statehouse
Although Democrats scored many of Ohio's top political seats in this election, a number of local Republicans were able to successfully retain their positions.

According to preliminary, unofficial election results from the Franklin County Board of Elections Web site, all county incumbents for the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives who sought re-election were successful, except state Rep. Geoffrey Smith (R-Upper Arlington) in the 24th District. In two other House Districts, the incumbent was not on the ballot for re-election.

Ohio Senate District 3

In Ohio Senate District 3, Republican David Goodman was able to hold onto his seat, defeating Democrat Emily Kreider.

Preliminary vote totals indicated Goodman received about 55 percent of the vote.

"I'm gratified by the support that I got from the voters of the district," Goodman said. "I'm encouraged that they recognize that I'm working hard."

It was a tough election season for the Republicans, Goodman said, and he was pleased to have retained his seat.

"I think people are as frustrated with what's happening in Ohio as I am, (and) it's been a tough environment to run in," he said. "But we were able to weather the storm, I think, with a very good message."

Though Kreider said she was not happy about the results, she was pleased about the learning experience that was her first run for political office.

"It's too bad that a deceitful campaign could be successful; I feel sorry about that," said Kreider. "But I'm happy about the way that I campaigned ... I have received incredible support."

Goodman said he has a lot of respect for Kreider for standing up for what she believed in.
