An interim assistant superintendent soon will slide temporarily into Assistant Superintendent Paul Cynkar's position in the Worthington City School District.

Cynkar recently accepted a position with Battelle for Kids after 25 years of service in the district. He is expected to begin working at Battelle on Monday, Dec. 1.

Superintendent Melissa Conrath said Ted Knapke, who currently is director of the center for achievement at the Franklin County Educational Service Center, officially will take over Cynkar's responsibilities early in January.

"I know Ted has the experience and skills to address the job responsibilities that Paul has in the district," she said.

Conrath said she posted the interim position and interviewed the people who applied, but was impressed with Knapke's experience.

"I contacted the Educational Service Center to see if it was possible for him to be put on loan for us as an interim assistant superintendent," she said.

Knapke's experience includes stints as superintendent at Grandview Heights, Wyoming City Schools in Cincinnati and in a North Carolina school district.

Conrath said the district will continue to advertise the assistant superintendent position this winter and "hopes to get someone on board" in the summer.

"It's hard to fill the position in the middle of the school year," she said.
