CANDIDATES FILE FOR 2 SEATS ON BOARD City council race uncontested
The only real choice on the community-wide political horizon is for a seat on the Worthington Board of Education, where three candidates will vie to fill two seats. Last Thursday was the deadline for filing petitions for the Nov. 6 election. The city of Worthington will be on the ballot with a single question which, if approved, will make several changes to the city charter. The amendments cover such issues as the date of swearing in council members, notification of passage of ordinances, make-up of city commissions and contributions to council campaigns. Four candidates will run for four open seats on Worthington City Council. Bob Chosy, Bonnie Michael and David Norstrom will be candidates for the three open full-term seats. All three are current board members. David Foust, a long-time member of the Municipal Planning Commission, will seek to fill the two-year term left open when Doug Holmes stepped down last year. As she announced several weeks ago, veteran council member Lou Briggs will not seek re-election. For the Worthington Board of Education, current board president Robert Horton will not seek re-election. Those who are running are current member Charles Wilson and challengers Julie Keegan and Geoffrey Scott. James Szabo, who announced his intention to run last month, did not file a petition. He may run in two years, he told ThisWeek. Village and township candidates were also required to file by last Thursday. In Riverlea, Ladan H. Williams will challenge Mary Jo Cusack for the mayor's position. According to the Franklin County Board of Elections, no one filed for the Riverlea clerk/treasurer position or for either of two village council positions that will be up for election. In Sharon Township, Gregory Chase and John O'Keeffe will be candidates for fiscal officer and Edward Johnston and incumbent Jack Moss will run for trustee. In Perry Township, Michele Elliott and Walter H. Roch Von Rochsburg will run for fiscal officer and Chet Chaney and John O. Ford will be candidates for trustee.
