The Worthington Board of Education won a bond issue but may have lost its president on Tuesday.

Gary Tyack, president of the board for 2006, appeared to be winning election to the Franklin County Court of Appeals late Tuesday night.

He was beating Alan Travis by a vote of 150,723 to 106,044, with 823 of 835 precincts reporting.

Tyack is a former appeals court judge who was elected to the school board three years ago.

He said he is pleased to be headed back to the bench, but would miss serving on the school board.

"It's been very challenging," he said.

Tyack's term as judge begins Feb. 9, which will allow him to serve out his year as board president before stepping down.

He also hopes to help the board choose his successor, he said.
